7 April marks World Health Day. An opportunity to recall that health is a fundamental right. In France in 2026, thousands of people still forgo care due to lack of means, information or access to appropriate structures.

One of the main barriers to healthcare access remains the lack of information. Many people do not know they are entitled to health coverage, are unaware of the Complémentaire Santé Solidaire (CSS) or do not dare to walk through the door of a free health centre.
Some people encounter difficulties (financial but not only) when it comes to consulting a doctor, buying medication or accessing dental care...
The causes are multiple:

France has a wealth of solidarity structures that are often little known:
Permanences d'Accès aux Soins de Santé (PASS) offer free consultations in hospitals for people without health coverage or in severe precarity.
Municipal and association health centres apply full third-party payment and set conventional rates, with no additional fees.
Health buses and mobile dispensaries reach out to populations distant from the healthcare system, in priority neighbourhoods or rural areas.
Temporary Healthcare and Rest Units (LHSS) accommodate homeless people who need care and rest but whose condition does not warrant hospitalisation.
On Soliguide, we currently list more than 8,000 solidarity health structures across France: free health centres, drop-in consultations, distributions of hygiene products, access to dental and eye care, psychological support...
